Internships in Data Science, Physics Research & Environmental Sustainability
Work on real climate datasets, AI-powered research tools, and laboratory physics experiments connected to one of the world's most urgent problems - the global energy shortage. Earth5R internships are designed for people who want to build something that matters - not just observe it.
What Makes This Different
You will not be filing reports or shadowing. You will be working directly on systems that power climate action at national scale, or inside a laboratory testing physics that feeds into real energy and environmental research - with mentorship from the leadership team.
Real Datasets
Work with primary climate data collected across India, or with raw experimental measurements from lab instruments. Either way, your output feeds directly into active programmes.
AI-Powered Tools
Use AI for research automation, data sorting, trend analysis, and building structured knowledge resources that scale the team's output.
Leadership Mentorship
Direct access to the founding and leadership team. You are not managed by other interns - you work alongside the people building the platform.
Physics and Energy Research
Work on optical and photonic experiments directly relevant to the global energy shortage. Lab results feed Earth5R's research pipeline and publication programme.
Earth5R Internships in Data Science, Physics Research and Environmental Sustainability
Remote Research Internship
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Learn and apply basic data science methods to study real-world datasets and convert them into clear insights for project planning
- Use AI tools for research automation, data sorting, summarising information, and building organised knowledge resources for the team
- Work with data analysis techniques to identify trends, patterns, and user behaviour that support early-stage strategy decisions
- Create structured dashboards, comparison sheets, and insight documents using AI-assisted workflows that improve team productivity
- Apply beginner-level data processing, visualisation, and AI-supported research to map opportunities for expansion across sectors and regions
Working hours: 9:00 am – 6:00 pm
In-Office Internship - Mumbai
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Support daily operations and learn how basic data science methods are used to organise tasks, track activities, and improve project planning
- Assist in preparing on-ground activities while using simple data tools to record participation, outcomes, and early GTM signals from the field
- Manage documentation, scheduling, and partner communication while applying AI tools for faster sorting, summarising, and workflow organisation
- Work with structured data entry, basic analysis, and report creation to help the team maintain clarity across different projects and departments
- Join internal planning sessions where data from fieldwork, partners, and user behaviour is reviewed to understand expansion opportunities
Working hours: 9:00 am – 6:00 pm
Physics Research Internship
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Use college laboratory equipment (optical benches, lasers, spectrometers, diffraction gratings, lenses) to design and run experiments that test fundamental physics principles from first principles
- Verify core optical theories experimentally - including Snell's law, Fermat's principle, diffraction limits, and polarisation behaviour - and document deviations between theory and measurement
- Apply mathematical frameworks (Maxwell's equations, Fourier analysis, wave optics) to predict experimental outcomes before running tests, then compare predictions against observed data with full error analysis
- Collect and analyse experimental data (interference patterns, beam profiles, spectral measurements, refractive index verification) and produce publication-quality reports with derivations and plots
- Review and summarise current scientific literature in assigned areas (photonic devices, polymer optics, environmental sensing) and identify gaps relevant to Earth5R's research and publication pipeline
- Support the Founder's ongoing research programme by running targeted lab tests on specific theoretical predictions and reporting results with rigorous uncertainty quantification
Working hours: 9:00 am – 6:00 pm
What You Will Work With
Earth5R internships are structured around the tools and methods used by the core team. You contribute to active projects from day one - not hypothetical exercises.
Data Analysis
Real climate datasets, trend identification, pattern analysis
AI Research Tools
Automation, summarisation, knowledge base construction
Physics and Lab Methods
Optical experiments, error analysis, publication-quality research reporting
Strategy & GTM
Expansion mapping, sector analysis, partner evaluation
About Earth5R
Earth5R is a climate infrastructure platform building the Forensic Sustainability Operating System (SaaS-X) - the verifiable execution layer for the $3 trillion climate economy. The platform operates across 65 countries with 1.3 million citizens and 1.2 million farmers.
The organisation has been recognised among the Top 10 Global Sustainability Innovators by Google, honoured as a Green Citizen initiative by UNESCO, and maintains strategic partnerships with MIT, NYU, OECD, Amul, and Indian Overseas Bank.
Founder Saurabh Gupta has been recognised by French President Emmanuel Macron as a Young Leader under the India–France programme.
What this means for interns: You will not be working at a startup trying to find product-market fit. You will be working inside a platform that already operates at national scale, is recognised globally, and is now accelerating. Your work has context, audience, and consequence from day one.
